Commenting On Other People’s Posts

For Activity 4 in Week 2, I visited four student blogs!

First, I went to Mia’s blog. I commented on her post about comments because I really like how she used examples to explain her reasoning, and it really helped me with commenting! Here is my comment:

I have not deleted a comment yet because all of them have followed the guidelines! However, I have a feeling I will in the future as more comments begin to arise. Have you had to delete any so far? Also, I really like the way you explained commenting by giving examples!

Next, I visited Georgia’s blog. I commented on her Online vs. Offline Self post because I found that her response was quite similar to mine! This is what I commented:

Georgia, I completely agree! I am very similar online and offline, and I always try to stay true to how I would act in person. However, I tend to write a little more formal on my posts. Do you also notice this?

Then, I went to Katie’s blog and read her All About Me post. I was interest immediately when I saw Australia because I have always wanted to go there! This is what I commented:

Katie, this is a great All About Me! I learned so many interesting things about you! That is so amazing that you have been to Australia! What cities did you go to in Australia?
-Lauren

Finally, I visited Olivia’s blog and viewed her All About Me post. I could tell by her picture on her blog that she liked the beach, so I wanted to learn more! Here is what I commented:

Olivia, I loved reading this All About Me! You have so many interesting parts about you, and all around you seem like you just love the water and the beach! What was your favorite part about Hawaii this summer?
-Lauren

I loved reading about all of these people and I look forward to start some conversations!

Last week I finished the challenges. Here is the link to my All About Me post: laurekessl4401.edublogs.org/2015/10/28/all-about-me/. I really enjoyed writing this post, since I find it very difficult to sum up all of the important aspects to me and my personality!

Commenting

There are several key factors when writing a comment on someone else’s post.

Fist of all, proofreading the comment is extremely important! Here are some tips to remember when proofreading. The comment should contain correct spelling and punctuation, and be written more formally than in person. An incorrectly spelled word every once in a while is alright, but it can be confusing when it interferes with the content of the comment.

Also, it is very important to stay on topic. It can be difficult for the publisher to understand the comment and start a conversation if the comment is unclear. Be sure that your reply relates to what the post is about.

Finally, an appropriate response has proper etiquette. If you disagree with the post, simply respond in a respectful way. Instead of criticizing a post, simply give your opinion on that topic.

Thanks for reading my post! Let me know how you feel about these commenting tips!

All About Me

Hello! My name is Lauren, and I am an avid tennis player! I play in tournaments, and have two older brothers, Andrew and Adam, who I love more than anything else. Andrew and I give swim lessons to kids in our pool. In my free time, I love to do yoga with my dad and hang out with friends. Over the summer, I traveled to Lake Tahoe where I had my bat mitzvah. My favorite foods are most likely quinoa and salmon, and my favorite restaurant is definitely Mastro’s. Although most people my age do not know of them, my favorite singing group is Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. I have two french bulldogs, Guy and Roxy, who I basically consider to be humans. That is why one of my favorite books is The Art of Racing in the Rain. I really enjoy school, and I am looking forward to an incredible school year!

My Online vs. Offline Self

I am actually quite similar when online and offline. I typically speak open about my views on a topic, and give my honest opinion. I frequently talk or post, but not to the point where it becomes to much. I am articulate about describing something, but I can use some different wording when offline. When I speak, I often use slang or incorrect grammar. However, when typing, I try to be grammatically correct and I tend to speak a little more proper. However, I would say in general, my personality and the way I express myself is very similar online and offline.

Avatar

My avatar is a cartoon image I created on DoppelMe. The link is http://doppelme.com/. I included things that I think are most obvious about my appearance, like my green eyes and brown, curly hair. Although it is difficult to tell in the avatar, the background is of a ski slope. Not only do I absolutely love skiing, but the cold weather is my favorite! My shirt is blue, because light blue is my favorite color. I just wanted to make my avatar recreate some simple facts about me and my interests.
